3) Two small fires caused an early afternoon evacuation of the University of Massachusetts' W.E.B. Du Bois library, which remained closed for several hours after the alarms sounded on Wednesday, February 4.
On the scene shortly after the evacuation, then Daily Collegian managing editor Joe Meloni and I were there to speak to emergency officials, library staff and students waiting outside the building. We both reported and wrote a first edition published online within an hour of the evacuation and updated the online version later that night and printed that article in the following day's paper.
I also took dozens of photos including eight which were put on the multimedia section of The Collegian's Web site as a photo slideshow.
The photos are arranged in a slideshow using the Soundslides program, which allows for fullscreen images, captions for each photo and quick browsing by either clicking on each photo or using the right and left arrows in the lower left corner of the slideshow.
